The Three Sillies Portfolio

In 2002, I took a class on illustrating for children's books. During the course I drew several nice pencil-crayon illustrations for the story of The Three Sillies, collected here.

Should you care, the story is about a young lady who finds a mallet stuck in the ceiling of her cellar and imagines a scenario where her unborn child is in the cellar getting cider and gets hit on the head and killed by the mallet. Her husband-to-be finds her and both of her parents sitting in the cellar sobbing over this day-dream, and he decides that he must find three people sillier than them before he can marry her.

The images are in the same order as the story.

The story begins.Once Upon A Time
This is the opening illustration for the story; it introduces the main characters and features lots of silly action. That's fruit punch that ma is pourin' down the well.
Gasp!Terrible Discovery
The girl spots a mallet in the ceiling...horrors! I had fun with the stairs in this one.
Moooooooo!!Cows Away!
The first silly person the young man meets is a little old lady who put her cow on the roof so it could eat the grass and tied herself to it so she'd know if it fell off...
Hanging cow.One Sillier Person
...so the cow hangs itself, and the lady is smothered to death when the rope pulls her up the chimney! It's a ghoulish kids' story, to be sure. As he walks away the hero thinks, "That's one sillier person!"
Leap of faith.Long Jump Champion
The second silly person the hero meets is a fellow who doesn't know how to put on his pants. He hangs them from the bed post and then tries to jump into them!
